You need AAA games. They cost more to make but they bring in way more money. The same applies in almost all other forms of media. Imagine if Ubisoft didn't have Watch Dogs or Ass Creed money to count on, would they have released Valiant Hearts or Child of Light this year? If EA did not have Battlefield or Madden money rolling in, would we be seeing a Mirror's Edge 2? If Sony wasn't banking on Uncharted or Last of Us HD revenue, would we be seeing The Order? Would there be a PS+ edition of Driveclub? Hell, would DC even exist after all the delays?
The writer does himself no favors by bringing up Airtight Games. They developed one of the worst games I have played in a long time. Maybe that's why they went belly up? Nah, has to be the fault of the industry.
