I feel as though these practices could get seriously ugly later on in the gen.
These "boosters" or "microtransactions" that make the game go by quicker or gives you more resources have come from the mobile market. In those mobile F2P games, technically you don't HAVE to buy boosters to play or finish the games, but the games are designed in such a way that you really need to use them if you want to get any progress.
Now granted console games haven't gotten to that point, but devs could potentially start to make their games more grindy or just tedious to encourage people to buy boosters and get progress. That is my greatest fear which could really ruin future games.
