I have never seen Nintendo or MS drop support for a system this quickly. Its a troubling sign.

Vita has already been out for 3 and a half years and still getting a nice stream of games all the time. But if you are willing to overlook failures of other companies which bombed more than 6 times faster from release to death can't really argue with ya about it.

2 and a half years, actually. December 2011 release date, so December 2012 would make 1 year, December 2013 would make 2, and July 2014 would make it a little over 2 and a half years. Going off the western release, it would be a little under 2 and a half years.

Either way, discontinuation would be really strange considering they all just took the 2K shipment. If they were going to discontinue the thing, why would they have just released the 2K over here? Why not let the 1ks dry up, and then not release the 2K at all if they were only going to do one shipment of it complete with Borderlands bundle boxes made just for the occasion?

I think the more logical answer is the bundle sold a bit better than they were expecting. If the sales were as horrible as they were before, it makes sense Sony would've slow NA production of Vitas to almost nothing, so that when a sales frenzy like this happens (by western Vita standards, anyways),  they wouldn't have high enough production to replenish stock.

Sony probably had to decide between spending extra to increase production if they thought this increase in demand was permanent, or do nothing and accept the transitory drought assuming it's only a temporary demand spike. They probably, wisely, chose the latter.
