Something like that doesn't belong in a gamer rig. The $999 version probably has a very low clockrate and will easily be outperformed by any mainstream(high clocked) 4 core chip. 8 Cores and high clockrate will easily cost you double.
the 5930K would be the most reasonable choice for power in gaming but still it's throwing away money.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
