Ok, it was my experience. I have heard other stories as well, but assumed it was due to the high demand in the launch period. Maybe I was just the only one in all of continental Europe who requested that service on that time. Or maybe my internet is just that good.

Or maybe the console you bought already had a more recent version of the firmware preloaded. Would hardly be surprising, because you aren't a miser who bought a clearance sale Skylanders bundle.

You are right. Since I am one of those filthy rich guys (i.e. anyone who has a job), I was able to afford the Mario Kart bundle for 280 Euros. And if that saved me a couple of hours waiting in despair to play a game, it was money well spend.
