Miyamoto didn't like the oculus rift, so they aren't doing that approach.

The reason Miyamoto did not like it was that it was made for people to sit in a corner and play. The head tracking uses a TV not a VR headset and it uses glasses. Everyone can see what you are playing but not experience without wearing the glasses.
