My favourite play through of dragon age origins was as a female city elf fighter two handed weapon specialist. It was fun having a diminutive character running around with a weapon bigger than her and laying waste to multiple enemies with one massive swing of her Great-weapon.
Fem shep is my ME canon playthrough. And this is more or less the case for all rpgs when there is a gender choice for main character.
