I don't think gaming will die, ever. If gaming dies, it's because the planet Earth is dying and everything in it is dying as well. How did I come to this realization? Comic books. How long is Batman, Superman, Spiderman, the Fantastic Four, etc, going to continue to rehash their stories? I can't tell you, but I can say it's been several decades since Comic Book soothsayers predicted their demise, yet here we are with the new 52, Original Sin and the reboots to come.
I can't imagine a future where games are no longer fun and anyone is not will to fork over money to have it be around. Look, I understand we're somewhat becoming shallow in our gaming, but it's not over, it's not going to end. We may be entering a period where things seem low, or perhaps the golden age of gaming is coming to a close, but what of the silver age? Technology is evolving faster than 2 decades ago, it's getting interesting to see what is coming out next. Big companies are looking into virtual reality and it's not a joke anymore. If this is the start of the holodeck. Gaming is leading the world into the future.
