Pachter has been horribly wrong before. He estimated GTA III would sell less than 300K, he was wrong by a factor 100 which is way off for any "analyst" or even your average kid gamer and probably almost any GTA gamer's prediction would have been more accurate.

I think he is wrong:

1) The PS3 install base will rapidly increase this year, already before the release of the big games the PS3 has been outselling the 360 for the whole of 2008.
2) GTA IV for the PS3 is constantly outselling 360 pre-orders at amazon.co.uk, so that's an indicator this game will not sell in line with install base ratio.
3) The series is popular worldwide, including even in Japan. This is no Madden or MLB, games which are only popular in one specific region.



Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales
