I've been gaming since '89 on a NES. Most of the stuff on it was pure trash, and with far less media covering it, all you could do was judge something by the box art (which rarely reflected the real game back then), pray that it didn't suck and take it home.

Same deal with my Genesis

Same deal with my N64

Same deal with my GameCube, though online reviews were prevalent enough at this point to steer clear of the garbage. Same deal with the PS2.

Same deal with my Wii.

Having to wade through a knee deep-pile of shit to get to the gold has been a part of gaming culture since the first console went public. The only thing that changed is the verbage we use to define them.
