like i said, theres litterally hundreds of different, popular android phones on sale in phone stores here, compared to a handfull of iphones, what youre going to get is dilution of specific handset sales but a higher platform base.

Clearly you didn't read any of the articles.

Apple controls over 50% of the market right now, compared to the dilution of Android devices everywhere else. That's easily one of, if not the, biggest market share Apple has anywhere in the world. Thus, game developers release almost exlusively on Apple, at least the big ones do (you know, the ones that actually make the big revenue?). The game revenue on Android would be much smaller than that on Apple, by logical progression. 

unit sales and installbase are entirely different. 

apple sold around half of the smartphones in one year,  does not mean that approximately half of the device users are running ios.

do you think all these phones ceased to exist? 

and that is simply factoring in mobile handset sales,  when you factor in tablet sales the android vs ios rift widens with android tablets selling extremely well. 

 

but more to the point,  both ios ans android are extremely successful here,  which only serves to back up my original stance of mobile and tablet gaming being a major reason for japan moving away from dedicated gaming devices,  and that shift making sony and nintendo focus their sights on more receptive markets,  but thank you for going down the mobile argument avenue with me and admitted outright that japans propensity for app uaage and sales is higher than that of the US despite having one third of the population,  because that was the entire point to begin with. 

 

so in the end,  the answer to this thread is as i said,  simply 'no they have just shifted their focus to more receptive markets'
