I was faced with the same choice, and I chose to learn real drums instead. Be warned though, you may lose interest in video games. I can just sit there for hours with a practice pad doing rudiments. Also, I'm kicking myself for moving into an apartment. All I can think about is moving to a house and getting a real kit, but my lease doesn't expire til September.
For the price of Rockband you can get a practice pad, sticks, metronome, some books and a couple lessons. I'm not saying you should do it, but if you really want to learn drums, you won't regret it.
