I just picked up rock band and played drums for about 5 hours straight. Super fun, I definitely recommend it. My opinion may be a bit skewed from yours. I play GH on expert and I also play various musical instruments.
The drums are different because unlike guitar, it's closer to playing actual drums and MAY take some work to get used to them. Not for me, even though I've never played real drums, I just put it on medium and let it rip.
