Reminds me of the freezing issues the Wii U had with games and apps (although your issue is disc drive related). Most of them are gone now (with all the stability updates) but there are still issues. Such as after I watch one program on Hulu+ and try to load another (usually Daily Show to Colbert Report) the app just stops working (won't show episodes after clicking on a TV program) and then when I try to exit Hulu+ it takes about 3-5 mins to finally get back to the start menu after acting like it is just frozen in an endless loop. Bascially, the Hulu+ app on Wii U is complete shit and I have to use my blu-ray player for it.
The best option is to notify Sony's customer service. Sounds more like a disc issue than software although it could be both.
