I think it sucks. It's just a way for MS to push Vista. A contrived "Need" for users to upgrade, and MS to make money.
If they implemented it independent of an OS, I would be more for it. There is no reason DX10 and the Games for Windows concept would not work on XP, other then MS doesn't want to do what's best for it's customers.
