About the they have been making profit in the last 7y so it doesn't matter they haven't recovered the money yet makes no sense. A ROI of 14-20y is a thing that no investor would pursue. If X1 gets black numbers they will keep rolling because the money were already expend and they may recover a part of the investiment, but if it goes red they could cut to avoid further loss.
MS is a different company than Sony, they act on cutting products a lot faster. Sony lost money on Ps3 for like 5 years, in Tv for 10 years and in laptop for quite many years and just now they are cutting.
