As long as those patents won't expire or until Google start moving its fat lazy ass and put together a patent portfolio large and strong enough to protect Android phone producers from patent trolling. So yes, ruling out the Goolge bit, it should comfortably last until MS patents expire. 
This should be fine for MS. In the short and mid term.
About this news and that phone: it should make happy many former Nokia fans that don't like Win Phone, it makes sense. Maybe they should offer a Nokia style UI in alternative to a Windows like one, to maximise the benefits.
