Not like it would be a unilateral firing. Iwata would agree to step down for his own health, take the moment to bow out while continuing to work behind the scenes to ease the transition, placating investors who may feel that new leadership is needed, and setting his successor up for success, by installing him as the Wii U begins to struggle back to life, and the company moves forward with other initiatives.
