The problem with this theory is we have evidence that they actually were talking about pulling the plug on the game and the company before they opted to allow another company to step in and financially back the game. If this were their "CoD killer" that "prints money" then they'd have not only made damn sure to provide ample funding for game one, but would have immediately locked up the IP for good. Look at what Activision is doing with Destiny. $500,000,000 committted for the life of the franchise already.

Another thing people don't really understand is the game was only going to be on Xbox One at launch no matter what kind of deals MS/EA reached simply because Respawn only had the manpower for development on one console and Sony was being extremely tight lipped about PS4 information. You can read all about it in The Final Hours of Titanfall. Yes, EA then made a deal to extend that exclusive timeline for a period of 13 months. And then when MS stepped in with financial support for development, in September of 2013 IIRC, they made the exclusive lifetime for the first title. Has nothing to do with "thinking Xbone would crush PS4". What 99% of people posting in these threads fail to grasp is the exclusive deals were done for obvious reasons and saved the game from getting canceled.

So the alternative to exclusive deals you think ruined the franchises potential, is pulling the plug, which really kills any potential. I mean I think Titanfall 2 will sell more on PS4 than no Titanfall ever releasing will ever sell on PS4.

On TF's exclusivity deal..

"Gamezone managed to get in a word with EA's Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen, who stated that...

"I think you should assume that we made that decision when it was back a few years ago when we decided to go exclusive,"

"We had some forecast at that time from where we thought both Xbox and PlayStation would be and that's what we based our decision on. I think we're still feeling very comfortable with that,"

Jorgensen is talking about how the Xbox 360 appeared to have more momentum than the PS3 throughout the seventh gen, and it seemed like the Xbox One would follow suit. He's also talking about EA's forecast that put cumulative sales at 10 million between the Xbox One and PS4 sales... a measure that they think can be reached by March of this year."

EA really thought there'd be a significant gap difference in sales between consoles.. you'd have to imagine what they are thinking now when they see marketshare and sales differences.

I really think that both MS, and EA both felt that since the 360 was the console of choice for FPS/ pew pew games it made sense that sales would generally be higher on that console, and next gen (X1). With MS greasing the wheels to make it an exclusive,  made it that much easier for EA to go through with it.  This deal was made when both systems were still buzz words, and breaking records.

MS needed a killer game they had the same multiplat shooters as the PS4 at launch, with Sony upping them one with an exclusive Killzone, and the bad press surrounding COD and Battlefield resolution, and FPS. They needed a exclusive game had they been smart, and launched with a new Halo or GOW, or even the masterchief collection, the need to purchase titanfall would not have been needed.

I think MS will not see a real shift in sales for the X1 until Halo MCC is released. Casual gamers do not get excited for preorders, they will purchase when the game is available as a physical copy.
