If they mishandled it at all, it would be not giving Respawn enough money for development, leading to Respawn having to rely on MS to fund development to complete the game.
That said, who can honestly know. CoD 2 never came to PS3 or Wii last gen, yet it went on to become a pretty big franchise last gen.
