They made the mistake of not wanting to risk more money on the game without owning the ip. Cant really blame them, they would be taking all the risk for an ip that could very well go to another publisher in the future.

In retrospect, they should have put up the money needed to complete development. I dont think they are kicking themselves too hard though. Microsoft essentially took all the risk in the deal and EA is getting a big chunk of the profit. Now that the ip is established, they can go all on in the sequels and really push for some serious profit without having to worry too much about risk.

Regardless though, the exclusivity deal was signed right before the new consoles launched.  Dvelopment was already in its final stages.  Dunno if EA really felt the IP was that big a risk at the time, given how much hype was already building up for the game.. but it'd be interesting to know in the future how successful the sequels will fare.  Just personally, I feel even if the sequel ended up on the PS4, it'd be a tough buy  for me because I missed out on the 1st title and will be oblivious to the story line, especially if Respawn takes the criticism of the lacking single player campaign and expand upon it for the sequels.  Also, depending on what will be available at the time, I might skip it to get something else, seeing that I missed out on the 1st title... know what I'm saying?   just food for thought.

Man.. I hate it when your girl has to leave my place to come back to you..
