Yeah, preordering digital games sounded stupid to me from the beginning. The only reasons I could think of was:

1: If you have cash when the preorder is released, you can order it then and not risk being out of money when the game releases.
2: if the game installs automatically when it becomes available at midnight, it will be ready to play when you wake up the same morning.

Was about to post the same thing. Yes, these are the two most logical explanations. It's not that hard to figure it out, so I really don't get all the "who the fuck pre-orders digital games" posts. I don't think it's stupid, though I've never done it and possible never will.

@everyone who doesn't get it. Say you have some cash in May but know that if you don't spend it pre-ordering the game, you may end up spending it on a night out with friends. So, by paying for it in advance you know you'll definitely get it.

If you have such horrible self-restraint that you cannot hold the money for longer than a day without wasting it irrationally, than your problem is larger than a $10 discount.

As I said earlier, preorder makes sense if there is a bonus, but even then, you can get the bonus by buying one day in advance, not 2-3 months in advance.

Why loan Sony or someone else that money, when you can keep it yourself?

I still believe they should be given the money back, as it's not a straight refund, but a price adjustment prior to purchase.

I can't speak for the US, but in EU the sale is not final until you take possession of an item, the money given is considered an advance payment, and must be returned at the buyer's request at any time before the sale is finalized, if requested.
