Was commenting on the fact that Bungie's Halo is now 343's Halo and Epic's Gears of War will now be Black Tusk's Gears of War, how do you guys feel about a franchise IP leaving their original developers for another studio? With mostly the Xbox division, IPs are being moved around to different studios, and I'm not sure that's a good thing.. Killer Instinct is now by Double Helix. Good game, but it feels it's missing something compared to when it was Rare's IP. Same thing with Halo after it went to 343 and eventually with Black Tusk and any future Gears of War IP. Imagine on the other side of the coin if an Uncharted game was not made by Naughty Dogs (though the vita game doesn't really count) or if God of War (again, psp/vita ports don't count, tho good in their mobile way) was not by Santa Monica. Heck, even LBP3 is being helmed by Sumo, and I don't know if Sumo will do that franchise justice. Moving IPs around within your studios are fine as long as the studios have a proven track record, but what about the studios that don't? Just like I really wonder how Black Tusk's version of GOW will be or a Rachet and Clank or Resistance game not by Insomniac. A GTA not by Rockstar? Just wondering what you guys think.
And if anyone wonders, I didn't include Nintendo because they tend to move their IPs among their own internal studios, which isn't too bad of a thing because much of their internal studios have pretty good track record of keeping the IPs going.
edit* also trying to do some research on some great IPs that have failed due to studio changes... Will update (maybe) if I find any.
