I know this topic has been discussed indirectly a lot of times. But I want to discuss it. The rising cost of AAA games are really out of control. Developers are trying to get as much cash as they can via DLC, microtransactions and expansion pack. Now selling 3 - 4 million units at $60 isnt enough for some developers. But developers and publishers needs them, especially big console players. So, how will they do it? Simple. Via AA / A games.

Before we move on the AA / A topic I want to put that B games are currently short in supply. In the 6 th gen we saw a lot of B games but indie games eliminated them. In 7th gen we mostly saw AAA games and indie games.

AA games are games that dont have big budjet like AAA games yet can be labelled as AAA games. They dont need any casting of celebrity to lure gamers. No need for perfect mo-cap and mindblowing graphics. Developers simply will focus on the game. It might be rough on edge but still its fun and good from business point of view.

Many indie gaems can also turn into AA / A games with proper funding. I think future of next AAA games will be taken by AA / A games. We will still see AAA games. But they will be short in supply.

AA games that comes to my mind are little big planet 3, sunset overdrive. Driveclub could have been in this categoty but I think it has gained AAA status due to prolonged development time and cost. Future of AA / A games seems bright.
