Most Americans don't actually know what socials ism or communism mean (particularly those with right of center political views)
The words have become a catchall for anything they dislike
whenever they say socialism is bad, I always ask them to define what they mean by socialism
For the most part they feel its about giving poor people (nonwhite poor people in particular) things like food and healthcare
