Do you know why they haven't given up on the xbox one? Yes, it's in third place... right now. I'm guessing it's going to be in second by Q2 2015 at the latest though. What does that mean? More people buying games with a new system, and more overall sales. The company doesn't care how many console there are, they care how much the game will sell. Look at COD's numbers
Xbox one is at 1.79M and wiiU is at .16M.
Or how about any other third party that's on all three? Sure, the wiiU has about 50% more units out there, but people are buying more for their xbox one.
