Look at XBox One, they have far less promise than Nintendo does.
1) People hate Microsoft for the DRM thing,
2) their console is almost a mirror image of the PS4,
3) they are expensive to develop for,
4) they have less marketshare than Nintendo right now,
5) Microsoft has lost almost all the steam in its sails already,
6) Microsoft has almost no first party game content,
7) Microsoft shot themselves in the foot again by bundling the kinect for 100 dollars.
8) Has to buy third party exclusives
9) Microsoft has no presence in Japan. Its not even worth them trying to sell it there.
That's the list of things Microsoft has to deal with that Nintendo doesn't. Here's Nintendo's list of reasons why they should recover:
1) Extremely unique console experience
2) Cheap
3) Huge first party development, enough to make it worth purchasing for that alone.
4) Family friendly
5) Cheap to develop for
6) Nintendo can bribe third parties with the 3DS which is doing really well.
7) Unique audience which isn't captured on the XBox One or the PS4
8) Third parties almost have to make all their games an exclusive on the Wii U without Nintendo doing anything.
9) Nintendo is winning Japan even more than Sony is right now.
10) Nintendo sales are picking up
11) Nintendo has the second largest marketshare right now of the big 3.
