Nintendo
1. They don't just focus on games, they focus on gamePLAY. Innovative and fun game design is more important to them than pixels, framerates, or even characters. To them, a new game IP is in the gameplay. Not in the world, not in the characters, but in the gameplay. And that's how it should be. All companies should put gameplay first. Sony does this at times, but it's not so much Sony doing it as it is Naughty Dog doing it, and as Insomniac used to do for them. For Nintendo, it isn't just a philosophy that a few of their big developers follow, but Nintendo themselves do, not just as a publisher, but as a developer. Their company is literally run by game designers. The other two are mostly run by men in suits, with a few exceptions.
2. Zelda
3. My fondest memory? Oh that's hard. Currently one of my favorite memories with them is the end sequence of Skyward Sword, from the last fight with Ghirahim to the end credits. Every Ganondorf fight also qualifies, but especially Ocarina of Time. Outside of Zelda, and one of my favorite gaming memories of all time, is a specific moment in Baten Kaitos Origins that is too spoilerific to say here. The game puts you not as the main character, but as the main character's guardian spirit. You interact with the main character as a character yourself. There's a specific part of the story that made me feel attached to a fictional character like no other game, movie, book, or other artistic or storytelling medium ever has.
4. My first gaming memory with one of their consoles? Technically my first memory was with an emulator of the SNES. I don't recall what my first game on it was, but one of the earliest memories I have from it is of Super Mario RPG. I especially remember when an extremely trivial looking item I insisted on keeping from the beginning of the game unlocked a secret boss, and I think that moment played a big part in why I like to obsessively collect everything in games. I later got all the Nintendo systems physically, not just in emulator form, but my first memory with a Nintendo console I personally owned was with the Gameboy. Wario Land 3 and Zelda: Oracle of Seasons come to mind in particular.
5. I thought Sony would win, because they're the most popular on this website, and overall, it seems, or at least PS1, PS2, and PS4 sales would suggest, even PS3 really, when you look at Europe and Rest of World numbers. Japan even came close to the Wii in PS3 sales. It's the "cool brand" in most of the world, while in the US and UK it competes with Microsoft to be the "cool brand." I didn't think Nintendo would be trailing horribly behind, but I did think it would be last place.
