MS is making profits because their other businesses (e.g. Microsoft Office) are making profits that more than makes up for the losses they make from the Xbox brand. Sony has been losing money because their losses made from their TV and PC businesses, and restructuring efforts exceed their profits from other divisions (e.g. Playstation, financials, music). How these companies are doing as a whole is entirely different from how they're doing in the gaming market.
