There is a thing called standard. Everyone has its own and it is influenced by how well experiences stack up to another. Sure, fapping is great but once you had sex you don't want to go back. It's absolutely legitimate for people to call out experiences who are just another fap instead of full on sexy time. We had fap last generation. Then we experienced what is infinitely better. Why would we want to go back? Why would we deliberately choose to go back to fap?

Before I made this thread I did something, and I want you to try it too. 

I have a 1080p projector hooked up to my PS4 and as a secondary display for a very powerful pc rig (i call it my workstation). I have also got a 720p 32" display in my bedroom. 

Here is what I want you to try (having taken everything you have said into account), find and download the high quality Uncharted 4 1080p trailer. Play it back on a 1080p display. Enjoy it. Then if you can get your hands on a 720p display, play it on that too... then answer this. Does it suddenly "look worse"?

I am not saying we should go back, or tech doesn't need to evolve, I am just saying taht our focus on it is misguided at best and usully for all te wrong reasons. We ae literally arguing about things that we actually cannot really see when actually playing a game.

Won't work with me for several reasons.

First, I have a 40" TV that I'm not sitting very far away from. If I lean in I'm starting to see individual pixels.

Second, I'm very sensible for graphics. I'm able to discern 720p from 1080p without having a direct comparison.

I didn't mind the graphics at the start (first 2-3 years) of last generation. They were still fresh and better than what I saw before. Before that I never owned a gaming PC. Then mid gen I got my first real gaming rig and saw what really was possible. I played on PC for quite a while. When I returned to my PS3 it was just awful. I couldn't even look at my favorite games anymore. I hated how FFXIII-3 looked and performed, how TLOU looked like ass. All those giant pixels and aliasing. I literally couldn't play Darksiders because of no AA. I got headaches from Star Ocean because of the graphics. I lost interest in Dragon's Dogma because of the lacking graphics.

That's why nobody can tell me that graphics don't matter. Better graphics might not further the gameplay fun but what they do is stop distracting you from it.

TLOU and FFXIII still ended up being my favorite games of last gen but I just hated how they were bogged down due to limited power of the console. I shouldn't be hating fun games. Graphics should be the least important thing in a game but they only are if they're good enough to not distract from the experience. PS4 is already weak but seeing X1 and WiiU not even managing the bare minimum is just appalling.
