It is very important to show off 3rd party games. The majority of people do not visit forums or gaming sites. They either see ads on facebook, or TV, or they hear news from friends/family/co-workers.

Things like to GTA5 announcment at Sony's press conference get posted on the front page of Yahoo, Google News, Comcast, etc. Now the majority of people know that Sony announces GTA5 coming to PS4 this fall. These people don't click the link, they don't research, they don't know it is coming to XBO and PC as well. This is a huge advantage for Sony. On the other side of the table you have Call of Duty playing the same role for MS.

The point is, whether 3rd party, 2nd party, indie, or in house. When you can associate your platform with the most popular Games/franchises, good is all that can come from it.

^This. Someone get's it.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler
