TLOU was the exeption. It was made by Naughty Dog. It's pretty much incomparable.
Even then, TLOU did didn't have the greatest gameplay. I found it average at best, it was the story that did it.
And yes, I'd rather have full control over what's going on, rather than shoot at a monster just for the game to completely ignore any damage I did and have it maul me anyway.
And then throw me straight into a quicktime event, to boot.
