Technically, dodging an attack to allow an attack or attack pre-emptively both are counter attacks :) I think whats cool is that there may not be an actual "counter attack button" so every counter will be skill based. I think the shot gun is for stuns or their take on magic/special attacks as theer will probably be different kinda ammo with different properties for the shot gun.
