and to answer OP: Holodust is right, Gamecube could have pulled an Open World Zelda if they really wanted to.

No he was not behind OOT.

He added suttle things but did not fully direct it.

same with TP. I think he did MM but im not sure.

He designed the dungeons.

He's been director from Majora's Mask onwards.

So with TP and MM, he's directed the darkest Zeldas in the series.
