Can anybody explain the PS3/Xbox360 owners logic to me?

Why would he suddenly go from the cheap low power console with useful features to the extremely expensive high powerhouse machine with features most people don't want? The PS3 isn't an "upgrade" or a logical continuation of the PS2, it's a totally different kind of machine that went in a totally different direction. That's why it's doing so bad. 

So that he can play MGS4, FFXIII, GT5, GTAIV, Kingdom Hearts(presuming it comes to the PS3), Ratchet and Clank, SOCOM, Assassin's Creed, RE5, etc, etc, etc... He also wants to use those pointless features like playing HD blu-ray movies, streaming audio/video to his PSP, and he even likes LittleBigPlanet somewhat compulsively. Just that right now, there is NO WAY he could afford $600, that's two months rent to him and he's only 19 making $8.50 an hour, so it's not in his budget, but eventually the PS3 will be $300 and he'll get one.
