Three reasons:
1. Image: Playstation has developed the biggest follower base over the course of four generation of consoles with almost no fault, and the PS3 is still successfully selling and welcoming new games.
The console design and their advertising clearly is better looking that Xbox One Mountain Dew Doritos american couch potato image. Finally the games they're curating, the studio they own are a great combination of japanese, european and american touches.
2. No DRM: this wouldn't have been an advantages if Microsoft didn't make the mistake of wanting to force feed people with an unwanted, unfriendly future of DRM and more importantly the Kinect. Most people are no stupid american ignorant who don't see the almost cliché danger of the Kinect.
3. Future proof, Now: The lower price combined with the little power gap between XBO and PS4, which makes it more future proof since when you buy a console you're going to use it in 6 years from now, made it the top choice even in the US.
