I'll tell you why Bayonetta 2 will sell more hardware than Second Son will: The environment.

Infamous is on a system where its primary audience is more likely to already have the hardware, and can easily get lost amongst other sandbox titles.

Bayonetta 2 has a devoted cult following who aren't generally the type of gamers to have a Wii U. It's also the only character action game that's currently available for next gen consoles this year.

It's pulling in an entire audience that is untapped on the market and is foreign to Wii U. It's not going to be a long lasting boost because almost the whole audience that's going to pay new retail will have it in the first week or so, but I bet the Wii U sales boost is disproportionately large compared to other Nintendo titles. I'd expect something like 30% of all the copies sold will move a Wii U depending on if Nintendo sweetens the deal enough.

Or the game will fail miserably, because it releases on a platform that has no affiliation with the platforms its predecessor released on and the fans of the original, that made a huge deal out of this exclusivity exactly because they do not want to buy a Wii U, are not going to put down $350 just for Bayonetta 2, thus leaving the game with the Wii U audience that has until now demonstrated little to no interest in third party games on the console.

I thought of that possibility, but cult followings are called that for a reason. If it were just some quirky game that people thought was alright, I could see it. However Bayonetta is essentially a solid game that cashes in on a lot of fetishes to capture the hearts of a rabid fanbase. Bayonetta has captured the minds of those who like over the top action games, and the hearts and dicks of a sh*tload of nerds.

You might ask why fans wouldn't buy a system early and just wait for it, but I'd call you stupid. Why buy something early when you know the price will only go down, there's the potential for new models of hardware, or more GB of HD space? The only other reason, and this is actually happening as we speak, is if there was a really sweet deal going on, say a cheap bundle with an amazing game, decent peripheral, and a free game of your choice.

Anecdotally, yes I know it's the lowest form of evidence, all of my friends who liked the game were talking about how shitty the Wii U is, then after it was announced exclusively for Wii U, were angry they were actually going to buy one for Bayonetta 2. The idea of not getting the game never crossed their minds. I expect that scenario to have replayed itself a lot.
