you dont think that device is anti social? how weird
why are you comparing it to ps4, xbox one and smartphones?
Its a peripheral.
Im sorry, strapping that to your head and holding two move controllers.... it just isnt going to fly.
perhaps you are right though, we shall see.

You talk as if there is only one possible way to use it. Two move controllers is just one usage scenario for the games that require that kinda interface. You can use it with just the PS4 controller.... notice that that has a big glowing light on it too? And yes, its a peripheral, but those that want to play gams that support it using it can still buy it. Kinect was a peripheral too if IIRC.
And your attitude towards something that you have never used is just wrong, one would think that gamers above all else would understand this but apparently gamers also seem to be the most resistant to change. Point is, you simply do not know how this culd work or not work and how it feels until you have tried it or we at least have final hardware and watch reviews.
But as it stands, this thing has the actual potential to chnage how certain games/genres are played adding a level of immersion that can not be achieved any other way. Let me give you a few examples:
- Picture GT, FZ, Wipeout or any racing or driving game with an incar view, with this you could move your head around like you would in a real car. Imagine moving in one direction while looking out your window or focusing on your rear view mirror all the while still maintaining positional awareness because it feels familiar.
- then think about flight sims/games where you are in a cockpit. same thing as above.
- then look at FPS, with this you can effectively use your controller to run in one direction while looking in another and firing, and it would again feel right cause it will feel familiar. It would add a whole new plane of motion to FPS. Now we have two strafe and turn and your aiming is tied to the centre of those two motions. This will make it possible to seperate aiming from your strafing and turning. You can be be strafing to the left, turning clockwise to the right and aiming to the top left all at the same time.
Those are just a few examples, all of which you can do still using a normal DS4 controller. But the important thing about VR is that its not just a tacked on gimmick, it actually adds to the gaming experience and would make it possible to do things in existing genres that would simply be impossible without it. I don't know how successful it will be, guess it will come down to price, design and support. But simply thinking about what can be done with it, I am very very excited. This addition could be the technical equivalent to controllers having two analouge sticks.

I agree !
The Virtual Reality Device could create a revolution in the video games industry.
It can change completely the way we play games.
