While I agree that the story is, at best, forgettable - or maybe just really poorly told, I remember next to nothing of the plot. The only one of the series where that happened - I think the soundtrack, graphics and gameplay make up for the lack of an engaging plot. The characters are debatable too - I like Ashe, Fran, Basch and Balthier. The latter two are awesome, imo. But Vaan and Penelo? They feel completely out of place. The de facto protagonist is Ashe, honestly.
