Final Fantasy is more about the grand linear story and the epic battles rather than just the gameplay style. Every FInal Fantasy is supposed to be different. Every Final Fantasy is treated as its own game. Thats kind of why its called final fantasy, it was the last hope for Square way back when they were having financial troubles. No other franchise holds the torch more than that franchise because it represents Square as a company. The gameplay can change, but as long as it stays an RPG it will be fine. Its more about mixing up great gameplay with the epic, fantasical stories.
