It is totally bogus that you lose points for disconnect. The game should be able to tell whose fault it was (whether an internet connection problem or manual d/c through power-off), and certainly not punish at the very least for Network-side communication errors (maybe if it's your ISP's fault, perhaps).
I'm only at 1100, after bottoming out at 990 as my first race was a d/c, then raced a fair few more times today.
