Go to gamerankings and metacritic to see reviews. Notice which review sites typically hit the average review score closely. You'll notice one of the most consistent to hit the average review is IGN and Gamespot hits it much less frequently. I've always had a sour taste in my mouth about Gamespot since 1998 when they gave Metal Gear Solid an 8.5. What a blunder that was. Just to let you now, they also rated it the greatest PSOne game of all time, a game they reviewed an 8.5.
