A strong story with well developed characters wins me over every time. I guess when I play games, I look for a interactive cinematic experience. I was to understand the world the protagonist is in and learn from their eyes. I also want the characters in games to really stick to and grow on me as the campaign progresses.
An excellent soundtrack that provides fantastic ambiance to the environment helps a great deal as well.
