There are a few problems with the whole "download is the future" claims.
1. Bandwidth...not every ISP allows you unlimited bandwidth...probably very few actually. HD videos will waste a huge chunk of bandwidth for people.
2. Speed. I doubt very many people buy the highest package their ISP offers...most probably get the basic 768k highspeed if they can get it in their area. At 768k, it will take forever and a day just to download one HD movie.
3. Space. Hard Drives aren't infinite you know, they run out of space. With physical discs, you aren't limited to how many movies you can have. You can have as many movies as there are discs.
Not only those...but we haven't really reached a time where the average person is tech-savvy for that kind of thing. Hell, I doubt the average person is very tech-savvy to understand they need an HDMI cable for HD without being told by someone else when buying and HDTV. Ok...maybe that's underestimating people a little...but I live in an area where most parents need their kids help to set up a DVD player.
