In my US economy class were talking about a matter very similar to this (Hershey pennsylvania). Stakeholder vs Shareholder. While I don't live in Japan, they seem to still live in a culture where the company values stakeholders. If thats true its important for them to employ all the people they do. |
its even more indepth than that, the very problem is that many japanese look at such companies such as Sony that helped rebuild "japan" the fact Sony was one of the companies there tohelp rebuild japan after WW2. To the many japanese that means Quite a bit, many employed japanese have friends and family that work there, the people in charge are mainly japanese, and since the west centric Holding Hedge fund's are not japanese, many view those as pretty much non viable to dictate direction of said Japanese company, even if the west centric Holdings may be able to run the company better.
Thats just the way they view it, its not really an issue of the Money its the issue of culture. and until that changes it will not change!
