I doubt that it has something to do with the CD-I... It's not the revenge for something that happened over 2 decades ago.
Has Nintendo failed to get a patent for the Wii Remote in North America? Philips probably has lawyer's offices that are searching for weak points in filed patents of other companies and file a slightly different patent themselves. I hate that, it has nothing to do with protecting the ideas of inventors.
