I don't think that even a single person could do something nice without the prospect of a reward. Naturally people who run a business are even less inclined to do something out of good will. Even if it doesn't have an apparent financial reward it has been calculated.
Yes I'm that much of a cynic.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
