It's likely.

Sometimes I find myself forcing to play casual games in the company of others. Pains me to play for sure, but if it's 'fun' for others, I will try.

It's MUCH easier for hardcore gamer to try casual, than for casual gamer to try hardcore. (imagine getting your mom to play Bioshock? or Halo3? or even FFXIII?)

Frankly, I think through aging, most hardcore gamer simply give up gaming than becoming a casual gamer.

Well, you can't exactly set around and play Fire Emblem while a group of peole watch you "pwn" with Ike and Titania by getting 4 +1's on a level up or soft resetting, now can you?

The best game for you would be Smash Brothers, or Wii-wheel Mario Kart. Nintendo is trying to bridge this gap, and the games they're releasing are quite fantastic.

I wouldn't consider "SSSBB" or MK, casual games. as you get your ASS handed to you if you never play it. What I mean by "casual" games is games that are extremely accessible to everyone, whether you played it before or not.

Games like Wiiplay, Wiisport or Carnival the game.

Can't agree with you there. MK is pretty accessible - Here's a wheel, drive. Even SSBB is fairly easy to learn, but both MK & SSBB take time to master completely, but then so does WiiSports.

The same goes for (PC versions) of Halo, Unreal and other games. Easy to learn. However, I think asking a non-gamer to pick up a PS3/360 controller and learn to aim with one analog stick and move with the other makes the console versions less accessible. The Wiimote is a great bridge builder for this though.

What different between Hardcore game and causal game is the depth. Yes, MK and SSBB are easy to get into, Although you will get your ass handed to you every single time. The characters are cute enough for some people to overlook failure (of losing), that's a credit to Nintendo.

Casual games won't have the depth, you will only be as good as you are about half hours in. Why? because people most likely won't play more than half hour each time anyway. That's why you see so many mini-games there.

So by your defination Tetris and Pac-man (and just about any game) are hardcore because someone who plays them  a lot will always smoke someone who doesn't?  Nonsense.

I agree with Hawk.  The difference is the learning curve.  A RTS is more hardcore because you have to invest hours just to learn the game and then remain playing it regularly else you'll forget.  RPGs are generally hardcore.  Action games can be either way depending on the complexity of moves and combos (and if you actually even need them).   FPS are largely casual but again, if their squad based and there's a significant learning curve to learn the game then it's more hardcore.

Guitar Hero and it's ilk are very casual, but again, a hardcore player will smoke a casual player anyday.
