Except not all of us have the time to fully learn Kanji and Kana. I know a little, but that's it. Google translate is being improved all the time, and even a rough translation is better than no translation. 

No. Names alone would ruin this. Not to mention the rest of the quirks.

Also I'm pretty sure everybody has 15 minutes every day to spend. Most people just don't have the commitment.

Seriously learning Kanji and /or Kana would take you years if you did only 15 minutes a day. And I'm sure I can live if it translates the names incorrectly, as long as I get the general meaning of what's going on. If you think it ruins the game, don't use it, plain and simple.
