They would need to try pretty hard to ruin the game honestly. Considering the battle system has aged pretty well, it's just a matter of giving it glorious HD graphics.
And would a direct sequel even fit on the game? I'm not sure, I'd rather have a prequel first. That'd be awesome. Then make "LoD2" a la FF, taking place in a different world.

No, just no. That's FF mark, LoD doesn't need to copy it. Well, I couldn't think of a sequel to FF13 and it had 2, so if Sony want I think they can give LoD a sequel indeed, that's the good side of it, I can't imagine it, so they have to surprise me (hope with something good xD) And the prequel for sure would be the best, the Dragon Campaign was majestic and would be just AWESOME to play it, so I save it to the last so they can do the best work possible on it.

Well, in this alternate world where LoD got a sequel and it was successful, the series would continue. And it can't keep spawning direct sequels forever, it will have to use different settings and characters eventually. And FF13's plot ended in the first game, the sequels shouldn't exist really. Granted, I haven't played them, but I doubt I'll enjoy them as much as XIII.
So a FF approach seems like the best solution really, after a prequel. At least a Zelda approach.
